Casting

Dry reading is a process that casting agencies use to see actors raw talent and emotions towards a script.

They have had little or no rehearsal with the script so they cannot prepare in advance. The actors would all read from a script as a character showing of their abilities. This gives all actors equal opportunity and allows the director to see their abilities on the spot.

Casting agencies - A casting agency is a group of agents that search for potential performers to work with. A casting agency works with the performer, a casting agency represents performers where as a casting director hires a performer.

Closed casting is a casting type where those auditioning have been invited. Those who have not received an invitation or are not represented cannot audition. Performers who are new to the industry are encouraged to attend open casting events to enable them to gain experience.

Blind casting is a form of casting, where the directors audition their cast without vision. Ignoring all visual aspects, whether this is physically or figuratively.

Casting calls are often used for filling out the remaining cast after main roles have been assigned. A casting call is when a company puts out and advert to attract actors.

Casting director - a casting director is the person in charge of the casting process and has the last say and authority over the roles and who will fill them.

Casting profile- a casting profile is a profile of a character, it will outline who the character is, what they look like and personality traits. this is used so potential actors can audition as the character outlined.

For our Cabaret performance we used closed casting as our form of casting; this is because we knew all of the performers and wanted to invite them to audition pieces we could select from.

Who is Kevin Spacey?

Kevin Spacey is an American Actor, Singer and Producer who has been in the news for sexual assault allegations from over 30 different women. Accounts range from harassment to attempted rape. In most accounts, the victims have stated that Kevin Spacey would offer assistance into the industry in return for sexual favours.
